Breakthrough for LED lighting technologies
LED lighting technologies are tailor-made for the Russian market: LEDs can handle even very low sub-zero temperatures.
But this is not the only reason why the Russian LED market is expanding with unusually high annual growth rates of 35 % (viewed over the long term): the Russian state is actively promoting the transition to LED lighting sources.
With an import quota of 98 % and no competitive domestic producer in sight, the Russian LED market guarantees best business opportunities to international producers.
Russia's LED market: an import market
98 % import quota
According to a survey of the RBK market research institute, Russia imports 98 % of its LED lighting. LEDs to the value of 50.8 million EUR are currently being sold in Russia annually. A 20 % growth is forecast for 2010. The Russian Ministry for Economic Development expects annual growth rates of 30 - 35 % when viewed on the long term.
Russian legislation boosts demand for LEDs
Russians obliged to use LED lighting sources
The Russian government is moving ahead with the use of LEDs as an energy-efficient lighting solution in the country and striving for a leadership role in terms of energy-efficient lighting in Europe. On March 23rd, 2010 the Presidential Commission for Modernisation announced that the transition from incandescent bulbs to energy-efficient lighting devices will not take place by implementing energy-efficient saving lamps (CFLs), but by converting to LEDs directly. The corresponding law should be in effect by June of this year.
